Features
- Vertically Mount a Cage System to an Optical Table
- 16 mm, 30 mm, and 60 mm Cage System Compatible Options
- Counterbored Slots for Mounting to Imperial and Metric Breadboards
These black-anodized aluminum mounting plates allow a cage system to be mounted vertically on an optical table surface. Each plate can be attached to an optical table using counterbored slots or holes, making them compatible with metric and imperial tables and breadboards.
The CPVMP2 and CPVMP2 vertical cage system mounting plates are compatible with either 16 mm and 30 mm (Item # CPVMP2) or 30 mm and 60 mm (Item # CPVMP) cage systems. The CPVMP2 plate has a footprint of 2.63" x 1.60" (66.8 mm x 40.6 mm) and the CPVMP plate has a footprint of 3.60" x 2.80" (91.4 mm x 71.1 mm). These plates use through holes with side-located M4 x 0.7 locking setscrews to attach cage rods for our cage systems. A center-located internally SM05-threaded through hole allows the use of our line of externally SM05-threaded components with the CPVMP2 plate, while the center-located internally SM1-threaded through hole of the CPVMP plate allows the use of our line of externally SM1-threaded components.
We also offer UBP Series Universal Base Plates with options for mounting 16 mm, 30 mm, and 60 mm cage systems. Cage rods are attached to these plates using 4-40 tapped holes. A center-located counterbored slot on each plate allows for rotation and translation of the plate. An array of threaded and counterbored mounting holes are also available for mounting other optical components, such as our optical post assemblies. Please see below for details and an application shot showing a 30 mm cage system vertically mounted using the UBP2 base plate.

Cage System Overview
The Cage Assembly System provides a convenient way to construct large optomechanical systems with an established line of precision-machined building blocks designed for high flexibility and accurate alignment.
16 mm, 30 mm, and 60 mm Cage System Standards
Thorlabs offers three standards defined by the center-to-center spacing of the cage assembly rods (see image below). The 16 mm cage, 30 mm cage, and 60 mm cage standards are designed to accommodate Ø1/2", Ø1", and Ø2" optics, respectively. Specialized cage plates that allow smaller optics to be directly inserted into our larger cage systems are also available.
Standard Threads
The flexibility of our Cage Assembly System stems from well-defined mounting and thread standards designed to directly interface with a wide range of specialized products. The three most prevalent thread standards are our SM05 Series (0.535"-40 thread), SM1 Series (1.035"-40 thread), and SM2 Series (2.035"-40 thread), all of which were defined to house the industry's most common optic sizes. Essential building blocks, such as our popular lens tubes, directly interface to these standards.

(posted 2022-06-13 12:25:05.703) Is it possible to build a 60 mm cage system by using two UBP2 units placed side by side instead of CPVMP? Since the delivery of the latter is taking so long, I have to find an alternative. Thanks jdelia
(posted 2022-06-20 01:59:34.0) Thank you for contacting Thorlabs. Unfortunately, the 4-40 tapped holes would not line up properly using this configuration. I have contacted you directly regarding alternative solutions. user
(posted 2013-02-12 10:21:18.547) Orientation is not adjustable, right? and two rings can not be hidden as does not look like in the picture??? jlow
(posted 2013-02-09 01:17:18.44) Response from Jeremy at Thorlabs: Both the C4W and LCP02 have internal SM1 thread. Therefore, you just need to screw in the SM1T2 to the C4W and then screw the LCP02 onto the SM1T2. user
(posted 2013-02-08 17:33:57.573) How will SM1T2 be used to Attach the C4W Cage Cube and LCP02 Cage Plate Adapter? |
